On Monday the 2nd March I flew to New Zealand on holidays.

Whilst there I met with Industry members, processors,film makers, Paul Booth our stock assessment reviewer and Daryl Sykes my counterpart in NZ.

On Tuesday 3rd March I visited the Auckland Fish Market where Australian Rock Lobster (Western R/L) were selling for $85NZ per kilo. The local lobster Southern Rock was selling for $69kg live.

A group of Kalbarri fishers says a decision to close the Big Bank Rock Lobster Fishery will result in further pressure on lobster numbers in the region.

Fisheries Minister Norman Moore announced on Friday, the fishery north of Kalbarri would remain closed this year.

Rock lobster fishermen in Western Australia are facing further pressure, with one of their fishing areas abruptly closed.

After reducing pot numbers by 15 per cent earlier this year, due to low numbers of juvenile lobsters in the water, Fisheries Minister Norman Moore has announced the closure of the Big Bank fishery, about 500 km north of Perth.
